Jock Itch Medication
69Jock itch is a particularly irritating (not to mention embarrassing) condition where fungus grows on the groin area. It can be itchy and/or painful and leave a reddened skin color on the infected area which can be a turn off for the opposite sex. When left untreated jock itch will spread down the thighs and on to other areas that come in contact with the affected area. Obviously this is a condition most people want to get rid of as fast as possible.
The good news is that jock itch can be cured through either prescription medication or through some over the counter creams and sprays. Prescriptions require a visit to the doctor but some of these over the counter solutions are available at your local drugstore, or even available online for at home delivery for those who are embarrassed to buy jock itch cream in public.
Over The Counter Jock Itch Medication
Over the Counter Jock Itch medication two basic forms, allylamines and azoles. You have probably heard of them by their more common names… Lamisil and Lotrimin respectively. Both of these solutions will solve the problem the only variation is the price and the length of time it takes to treat the infected area. Allylamines (Lamisil) has a shorter treatment time (usually around two weeks) but is typically more expensive. On the other hand Azoles tend to be cheaper but take almost double the time for treatment (around four weeks).
Usually Lamisil or Lotrimin is enough to treat the problem (and they work very well on athletes foot as well) but if these over the counter solutions still don’t cure your jock itch you have a few prescription options that are a lot stronger and can take care of those hard to contain areas. Of course you will need to visit a doctor for this and can’t buy them online.
Prescription Jock Itch Medication
There are two primary forms of prescription medications for jock itch are topical treatments (creams and spras) that you place on the skin or oral medication that you ingest by mouth. Topical solutions include econazole and oziconazole while oral solutions include itraconazole, fluconazole and terbinafine.
It is important to note that prescription medications can have side effects including gastrointestinal issues, liver function issues and rashes. You may also have complications if you take some other prescriptions that mix with any of the above so be sure to let your doctor know all of your prescriptions to prevent any interaction.
